“WE” was published immediately to capture the moment of Lindbergh’s success the same year of completing the first solo, non-stop transatlantic flight. It describes Lindbergh’s early career and experiences as an aviator before the Paris flight, then provides a firsthand account of that experience. The story is a contemporary account of Lindbergh’s reception in Paris, Brussels, and London by Fitzhugh Green, along with beautifully printed illustrations. Printed on luscious handmade paper, this deluxe edition was meant for the collector’s market from its very conception, acknowledging the historic nature of Lindbergh’s achievement. Lindbergh takes readers on a riveting adventure, describing the physical and mental demands of flying alone for long hours and the overwhelming sense of accomplishment upon reaching his destination.
Lindbergh, then a 25-year-old U.S. Air Mail pilot, emerged from virtual obscurity to almost instantaneous world fame as the result of his Orteig Prize-winning solo non-stop on May 20–21, 1927, from Roosevelt Field located in Garden City on New York’s Long Island to Le Bourget Field in Paris, France, a distance of nearly 3,600 statute miles, in the single-seat, single-engine monoplane Spirit of St. Louis. Lindbergh, a U.S. Army reserve officer, was also awarded the nation’s highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his historical exploits.
Charles A. Lindbergh (1902-1974) made the first non-stop solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean in the Spirit of St. Louis from Long Island, New York, to Le Bourget, near Paris, on May 20–21, 1927. His flight was sponsored by a group of businessmen in St. Louis, Missouri, and named the “Spirit of St. Louis” in honor of his supporters from the St. Louis Racquet Club in his then hometown of St. Louis
