Description

Northern Italy and Southern Italy along with Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily offered as a 2-map set. “Northern Italy: Lombardy & Venice, Sardinia, Tuscany, Parma, Modena, Lucca and the States of the Church” and “Southern Italy: Kingdom of Naples, I. Sardinia & Malta.” These two maps were taken from J. H. Colton’s first edition of his Atlas of the World. Maps are dated 1855 and were published in Volume Two of the 1856 Colton Atlas of the World, his first 2-volume atlas. Inset of Malta included on the Southern Italy map. Maps show roads, railroads, rivers, villages, cities, coastal features and impressively detailed topography of these mountainous areas. Full and vivid original hand-coloring, done at the time of publishing. Clean with a few tiny sulfide spots on each. Toning to edge margins (a little more on the Northern map). Both maps 12.875 x 15.75
