Description
Confederate Major General Daniel Harvey Hill (1821-1889) Signed Letter and Autograph. (1) Letter from Hill to telegrapher from the Dunlop House, Petersburg, Virginia, 1864. In the letter, Hill requests the telegrapher to send a telegram to his wife. Included with the letter is a set of three Dunlop House, Petersburg, Virginia stereoscope cards. The cards are part of "War Views" series published by E. & H. T. Anthony & Co., New York. The cards and letter are professionally framed and matted in a double sided frame. The visible portion of letter measures 4 1/8" X 5 3/4". The visible portion of stereoscope cards measure 3" X 6". Frame measures 11" X 22 1/2". (1) Framed D. H. Hill autograph with photo. The autograph is on a scrap of paper approx. 5/8" X 3 3/4". Frame measures 7" X 10". The Larry Mangus Collection, Corinth, Mississippi. Condition- The letter has some light toning, one word in the letter looks to have been marked out by General Hill. The framed autograph paper has heavy toning and inscribed in pencil, "5.00/67, CSA." The steroscope cards appear to be in good condition. See photos.
