Description
Native American / First Nations, Northwestern United States, Alaska or Canada, Inupiaq / Inuit people, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A vintage wood handled dog sled whip, carved with a dog, seal, and salmon and symbols along the handle and painted. At the end is a woven hide thong that tapers to a braid - presumably the end of the braded sinew once had longer / additional attached cords that could reach the dogs. Arctic peoples, especially the Inuit, travel a great deal across their tundra landscape; in the winter, they use dog sleds to gather food, resources, and visit friends and family. Size w/ thong: 25" L x 1" W (63.5 cm x 2.5 cm); wood handle: 10" L x 1" W (25.4 cm x 2.5 cm)

Condition
Braided thong tip is frayed and slightly unraveled, and missing rest of the thong tip. Wood pigment is chipped in some areas, but wood is intact and good condition.
