Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, Alaska, Inuit, Aleut, ca. late 19th to mid-20th century CE. This is a handsome walrus ivory carving that forms part of a handle and neck for a cane featuring a polar bear and fox. The handle is curved for gripping and low relief carved with the elongated fox body on one side, the snout in high relief, and the bear on the other side- the open mouth painted with red and black to highlight the sharp fangs. The surface has been highly polished and as developed a light-yellow patina over the years. Size: 8.75" L x 1.25" W (22.2 cm x 3.2 cm)
