Description

Walter Addison, New York, 1914-1982. Grouping of 8 Walter Addison sketch books, most containing studies/sketches of various wild and domestic animals including cheetah, antelope, raccoon, owls, baboons, birds, camels, rooster, etc. See photos for more details. All books only partially filled (less than half filled) and most artwork is in good condition. The largest book measures 8 1/2" x 10 3/4". Circa 1940-50 during his tenure as the lead artist of the Bronx Zoo. Provenance: Consigned by family. All artwork was found in his cottage in Washington Depot, Connecticut, on the banks of the Shepaug River, where he lived with his wife Rhoda from 1965 until his death in 1982.
