Walter Addison, New York, 1914-1982. Grouping of 17 pages of mostly charcoal sketches of apes including monkeys and gorillas - some have drawings on both sides of the pages, all unsigned but obviously from the hands of Mr. Addison - note that only 1 drawing is signed, a WPA charcoal and ink illustration, the first 2 words being illegible followed by the inscription ".... '36 /Baboon / Central Park". Most in good condition. The largest measures 19" x 24". Most circa 1940-50 during his tenure as the lead artist of the Bronx Zoo. Provenance: Consigned by family. All artwork was found in his cottage in Washington Depot, Connecticut, on the banks of the Shepaug River, where he lived with his wife Rhoda from 1965 until his death in 1982. Note - sold in last sale but bidder did not pay for lot.
