Historic 19th c. Signed Tennessee Debt Claims Letter to Captain Simpson from John Dickson (1780/5-1855), brother of William Dickson of the Dickson-Williams Mansion in Greeneville, Greene County, TN. Signed Letter reading "Greeneville 6th October 1832/Captain James G Simpson/Dr Sir/I have been expecting for some time to have heard from you-having mentioned to you the last time you were here that I should be glad to have some payments on my claims against you and that I would take a load of ham at any time you had it to spare. Sheet - 12 1/4" H x 7 3/4" W.William Dickson was a wealthy Irish immigrant who built the high Federal style mansion known as the Dickson-Williams Mansion in Greeneville, Greene County, TN. Union Generals Ambrose Burnside and Alvan C. Gillem, as well as Confederate Generals James Longstreet and John Hunt Morgan, visited the home. General Morgan spent his last night in the home. A Federal raid on Greeneville on September 4, 1864, targeted the Dickson - Williams home, where Gen. Morgan was killed on the property.
