Pair of Canada Goose Decoys
William "Will" Hammerstrom Jr. (b. 1953)
Waretown, NJ, 1986
26 in. long
Captain William "Will" Hammerstrom Jr. was born in 1953. His father was known decoy carver William "Bill" Hammerstrom Sr. (1931-2018). Following in the footsteps of his father, "Will" became a charter boat captain, boat builder, and decoy carver. His early birds were of the Barnegat Bay style and often included black ducks and mallards. His paint patterns were
simple for these birds as they were often used and sold for hunting. As time passed, Will began to experiment with different carving styles, including Delaware River styles. He also experimented more with painting his decoys. These carvings are signed by the maker.
