The Army of the Potomac was the most important Union army during the Civil War, led by George McClellan. Numerous authors published important accounts of McClellans Army of the Potomac, including a rather obscure work by French naval admiral Francois dOrleans, prince of Joinville. Joinville served the Union in the American Civil War and was appointed by Abraham Lincoln to serve McClellan and his regime.
Joinvilles first-hand account of the Army of the Potomac was translated into English by William Hurlbert, published in 1862.
