The Peninsular Campaign was the first major offensive campaign by the Union in the Eastern Theater. Barnard served as Chief Engineer in the campaign and among the many engineering operations he led, the primary event of note was the siege of Yorktown on April 5-May 4 of 1862. This account describes the events leading up to, battles fought during, and the aftermath of the famous Peninsular Campaign.
