â€œCamp, March and Battle-Field” is a first-hand account of the experiences of Reverend Alexander M. Stewart, who served as Chaplain of the 102nd Regiment, P.V. during the Civil War. The memoir chronicles his firsthand experiences with the Army of the Potomac, including his observations of battles such as Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg. Stewart also writes about his interactions with soldiers, officers, and other chaplains, as well as his efforts to provide spiritual guidance and support to those under his care. Published in 1865, the book offers a unique perspective on the war from a chaplains point of view.

According to Nevins,

â€œA composite of individual studies that originally appeared in a Pittsburgh newspaper; the author was chaplain of the 13th Pennsylvania and served in Virginia.”
