Eastern Mediterranean, Greece / Egypt Ptolemaic period, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. An ancient Greek pottery shard inscribed with five lines of text in black ink. Ostracons are pieces of pottery, usually from vessels that are broken, that have been repurposed as simple writing tablets, the inscriptions scratched or inked. Size: 2.5" L x 2.5" W (6.4 cm x 6.4 cm)
