Description
Exquisitely Colored CDV of the 82nd Pennsylvania National Colors
An evocative carte illustrating the battle damaged National Colors of the 82nd Pennsylvania Infantry. During heavy fighting at Cold Harbor the canton of the flag was completely shot away, as if the stars had been torn from the heart of the Republic. The banner was carried by Sergeant George W. Waterhouse, Co. I, who was later recognized with a promotion to 2nd lieutenant in September 1864 following Grant's bloody Overland Campaign. A photocopied page of the identical flag with captions accompanies.
The image is undamaged showing wear consistent with age and slightly bumped corners.
[Daguerreotype, Ambrotype, Tintype, CDV, Albumen, carte-de-visite, Salt print, Cabinet Card] [Civil War, Union, Confederate]
