Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985) was a French painter and sculptor known for founding the Art Brut (or "raw art") movement. Rejecting traditional standards of beauty, Dubuffet drew inspiration from non-traditional sources such as graffiti and the art of the mentally ill. His work is characterized by a rough, childlike aesthetic with heavy textures and a disregard for conventional artistic techniques, reflecting his belief in the value of authenticity and spontaneity in art.
