Description
An original hand colored map by Dutch-German cartographer Andreas Cellarius (1596-1665), titled Theoria Lunae, Eius Motum per Eccentricum et Epicyclum Demonstrans. Piece comes from the star atlas Harmonia Macrocosmica, a noted masterwork of the golden age of Dutch cartography. Map shows the Claudius Ptolemy model of lunar motion, encircled by the symbols of the zodiac as putti figures fly among clouds and hold banners bearing the title, two smaller diagrams in the corner. This copy was published in 1708 by Valk & Schenk of Amsterdam, small #18 in bottom right corner. Measures 30 1/2" x 26 1/4", 28 1/2" x 24 1/2" site. *note - map is professionally laid on paper.
