Description
Chinese 18th Century Blue Monochrome Porcelain Sacrificial Vessel based on an archaic Bronze with incised patterns under the thick glaze and Animal Head & Tongue Handles, the recessed base with 6 character raised slip Qianlong seal mark in blue glaze and of the period. Width from handle to handle 9 3/4 inches (24.7 cm.). Height 5 inches (12.7 cm.). NOTE: One of the Ritual Vessels illustrated in the Qing Illustrated Compendium of Ceremonial Paraphernalia for State Rituals, the ceremonies where Qing emperors offered prayers for blessings, guidance and the wellbeing of their Chinese Empire. The Art Museum of The Chinese University of Hong Kong holds the largest repository of such ritual vessels outside of the Palace Museum.
Condition
Age related wear, 1 handle with cracks to top and bottom possibly re-stuck, small bosses around bowl polished flat, a flake to 1 horn of 1 animal head handle; cover missing.
