Description
[SLAVERY]: A very interesting document, one page, large 17 x 12 folio, given at Matanzas, Cuba, n.d., in Spanish. The partially printed document, bearing the printed heading ''Registro General de Patronato de la Provincia de Matanzas'' (''General Registry of the Council of the Province of Matanzas''), is a detailed list of twenty-two slaves, fourteen men and eight women, five being children, including the full names of their ''Patrono'' (''Patron''), the names given to the slaves `Tomasa - Atanasio - Polonia - Estanislao…´, an identification number given to each of them, their sex, their origin `Creole - Africa…´, and their age, being 5 years old the younger and 33 the older. Five slave names are crossed, showing the reason to the right border of the official document, to the last column, stating that these five slaves were freed, indicating `Libre´ (''Free'') and the dates they were freed, between 1882 and 1886.
