Description

Male Figure, Yap Island, Micronesia, Mid 20th C.Yapese figure with profuse tattoo patterns which are painted black and edged in relief over large area of torso and upper arms. Top knot, previously wrapped in fiber headdress, protrudes on top. Black paint defines the facial hair, eyes and eyebrows. Loin cloth and ears decorated with red commercial fabric. Flaw in grain of wood runs from skull through neck to chest. Size: 22'' x 5'' x 4'' (56 x 13 x 10 cm).
