A fine and old Lower Sepik drum. Lower Sepik River; Madang province, Papua New Guinea.Of typical hourglass form, the drum with rounded handle terminating in two classical lower Sepik mask- like faces. The body with typical curvilinear designs. A crack to the side filled traditionally with tree resin.This fine old drum shows exceptional carving and the terminals of the handles are in the style of the most desirable forms of Lower Sepik mask. The drum shows great age and use and the native repair is quite old.Acquired by Marc Seidler from Rudi Ceaser, C. 1982. The Drum Measures 33 inches tall x 6 inches wide.
