Description
Roman, Republic to Imperial Period, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A collection of 3 leaded-bronze, bronze, and iron tools. The slender pin shaped item is a stylus nib for scratching text into wax, paint, or clay tablets - the socketed end may have fit onto a wooden shaft for a better grip. The large iron key has a loop for wearing on belt or cord and the other hooked bronze piece is likely part of a door latch mechanism that a similar key would have fit. Size of iron key: 3.9" L x 0.75" W (9.9 cm x 1.9 cm)
