Eastern India, Bengal, 1780-1800. Gouache, ink, watercolors, and gold color on paper. Depicting the Goddess Bagalamukhi, one of the ten Mahavidyas, as well as representing an avatar of Parvati. The Goddess is shown with three eyes, carrying a club in one hand, and in the other she is holding the tongue of the demon Madanasur to keep him at bay. With calligraphy at the top. The central image is framed by a gilt floral and a red border.
Condition: Good condition with usual wear, losses, tears to edges, and soiling.
Provenance: Private collection, USA, acquired from Julian Roberts, a well-respected art curator and art dealer of Indian miniatures.
