AN INDIAN MINIATURE PAINTING OF DHUMAVATI, 1780-1800

Eastern India, Bengal, 1780-1800. Gouache, ink, watercolors, and gold color on paper. Depicting the Goddess of widows Dhumavati, the seventh of the ten Mahavidyas. The goddess is seated inside a chariot, carried by two horses, and a banner with a crow emblem is mounted on top of the wagon. With calligraphy at the top. The central image is framed by a blue and gilt floral border as well as a red border.
Condition: Good condition with usual wear, losses, and soiling.
Provenance: Private collection, USA, acquired from Julian Roberts, a well-respected art curator and art dealer of Indian miniatures.
Dimensions: Sheet size 25.5 x 19.5 cm
