Description
1st item: A hand-painted Russian icon in gilt and tempera with gesso on wood panel and depicting The Twelve Feasts. Twelve vignettes surround a larger central panel, all featuring saints and holy figures. The painted border includes geometric and botanical forms and Cyrillic text. Hand-written Cyrillic text and numbers on verso. 12 1/8" H x 10 7/16" W. Likely 19th century. 2nd item: Russian Icon with pierced silver riza depicting St. Euphrosyne of Pototsk standing in the center with two angels above and an engraved Russian city scene in the background. Maker's hallmark and second Kokoshnik mark to left of central figure's right foot. Wood panel has been covered in velvet. 8 3/4" H x 6 3/4" W. 1st qtr. 20th century.
Condition
1st item: Overall good condition. Scattered gilt lost and oxidation throughout. An 8 1/2" hairline crack resulting from two boards being joined to create the panel runs vertically from the top right edge. 2nd item: Losses to perimeter of rize/oklad, some fading to velvet, oxidation to silver.
