Description
A Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) official National Encampment badge for the annual meeting held in Detroit, Michigan, 1914. The badge, 6 in. overall, comprises four decorative elements attached by metal loops: a bald eagle gripping a sword and scrolls, a representative badge with the letters ‘GAR’ in red, white and blue, a badge showing men sailing the sea with date July 24, 1709, and a bronze medal bearing the image of GAR Commander Washington Gardner. Yellow ribbon attached to verso. The GAR would hold these National Encampments in a different city every year for veterans to attend with their families. Presented in its original 3 x 7.5 in. cardboard box.
