Description
A pair of 19th C matching cast stone sculptures depicting eagles looking left and right respectively with wings unfurled and talons gripping to rough hewn stone base. Possibly used as gargoyles or lawn ornaments. Unmarked. Provenance: from the estate of renowned astronomer Edward A. Lilley (American, 1928-2020). A prodigious Harvard educated scientist, Lilley made significant contributions to the Mariner II, NASA's first planetary mission.
