Description
Late 19th century Large sculpture in cast bronze, patinated, and marble base of Frederic Remington's Bronco Buster. "The Broncho Buster," Remington's first sculpture and the first sculpture of a cowboy cast in bronze, was copyrighted in October 1895. He adapted the subject, a cowboy taming a rearing horse, from his drawing "Pitching Broncho ", published in "Harper's Weekly" on April 30, 1892. The rough and ready drama Remington captured in his paintings was carried over into this action sculpture, and the statuette gained rapid appreciation as an iconic representation of the cowboy of the day. . The brand on the horse of a triangle within a circle represents the iron brand of the horse's ranch. Original from 1895. Signed on the base. This beautiful and imposing sculpture is missing the shaft that the cowboy carries in his hand (see details in photos), otherwise it does not need restoration. Measures 23.50" high x 16.50" wide x 9" deep (inches). Excellent condition.
