Giovanni Battista Piranesi (Italian, 1720-1778) etching on paper, "Marble Vase with Frieze of Bucrania,1773-1778," posthumous restrike, from the suite "Vasi, candelabri, cippi, sarcofagi, tripodi, lucerne, ed ornamenti" (Vases, candelabra, grave stones, sarcophagi, tripods, lamps and ornaments), the text description above image states that the vase could be seen in England at the house of Mr. Egidio Earle, dedication below image, signed "P.F." in plate lower left, marked "535" an "29" upper right, blind stamp lower left possibly from the "Regia Calcografia Edition," unframed. Provenance: Phyllis Lucas Gallery, NYC. [Image: 21" H x 15" W, sheet: 32 1/2" H x 23 3/4” W]. Foxing, toning to edges and binding tape at left edge.
