Description
A check signed by Simon Lake (1866-1945), the inventor of one of the earliest submarine prototypes, as "Simon Lake" on the signature line. Encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified and graded MINT 9. The unnumbered check dated September 25, 1924 authorized the Bridgeport Trust Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut to pay $50 to R.M. Keys. Endorsed by the payee verso, and bearing the usual clerical perforation marks and stamps. Near fine. The check measures 8.625" x 3" and the slab measures 12.375" x 5.625."
Simon Lake (1866-1945) produced a series of submarine designs over his 50+-year-long career as a naval architect, and his underwater craft was eventually deployed by the United States, Germany, Russia, and even the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Eventually, Lake established twelve different business concerns tied to his submarines and held over 200 patents relating to their design.
