Etruria, northern Italy, Etrusco-Corinthian, ca. 630 to 540 BCE. A wheel-thrown polychrome pottery alabastron - used for holding perfumes and scented oils - with a characteristic round-bottomed, piriform body that rises to a slightly concave rim with an applied handle joining the annular, flared rim to the slender neck. The surface is painted with two lions facing each other over an owl. Size: 3.5" L x 2" W (8.9 cm x 5.1 cm)

Provenance: private Chicopee, Massachusetts, USA collection; ex-East Coast, USA collection, acquired before 2002
