Description
Etruscan, Genucilia Group, Faliscan, ca. 300 BCE. A wonderful Etruscan plate of the Genucilia Group featuring a Lady of Fashion surrounded by four spiral waves painted in black pigment on the tondo, with black striations highlighting the contours of the rim, pedestal, and foot. This particular example is deemed Faliscan, as scholar Mario Del Chiaro, who conducted seminal research on Genucilia Group Etruscan plates, observed that the sakkos of the Caeretan Branch featured a cross-hatched, almost netted pattern, while painters of the Faliscan Genucilia depicted sakkos with stylized palmettes as we see here. Size: 5.25" Diameter x 2.125" H (13.3 cm x 5.4 cm)
