THREE VASES
Meiji (1868-1912) or Taisho (1912-1926) era, 20th century
Comprising a pair of Satsuma-ware vases, each with an almost identical scene depicting elegantly clad ladies and attendants in a bamboo garden, the rims and handles of simulated bamboo, each signed on the base Nakajima beneath the emblem of the Shimazu clan, each vase 21.5cm (8½in) high; the third a Kutani-ware sake bottle decorated with a scene representing the Noh play Hachi no Ki, inscribed on the reverse Nogaku Hachi no Ki with a seal, signed on the base Kutani; 14.5cm (5 5/8in) high.
