Inscription: Inscribed by the artist at lower right: "Skizze zu meinem Bild des S. Alfons". On the reverse is a quickly sketched study of a robe and folds. The sheet comes from a sketchbook by an anonymous artist from the circle of the famous history painter Moritz von Schwind (1804 Vienna - 1871 Niederpöcking), who is one of the most important painters of the German late Romantic period. As in Schwind's works, the sketchbook contains numerous depictions of history scenes or illustrations of fairy tales and legends as well as religious themes. Please also note our other offers.

Description: Sketch drawn with fine hatching and shading or a figure and costume study for a history painting in the style of the German late Romanticism or the Nazarenes. Showing the bishop Alfonso Maria de' Liguori kneeling at the altar in a church, who was canonised and raised to the rank of Doctor of the Church. The sheet comes from a sketchbook by an anonymous artist from the circle of the famous history painter Moritz von Schwind (1804 Vienna - 1871 Niederpöcking), who is one of the most important painters of the German late Romantic period. As in Schwind's works, the sketchbook contains numerous depictions of history scenes or illustrations of fairy tales and legends as well as religious themes.
