Description: Louis Charles François de Graimberg (*1774 near Château-Thierry-1864 in Heidelberg) was a Romantic painter and draughtsman who also made a name for himself as a collector, museum founder and monument conservator. His studies of nature bear witness to an intensive engagement with the Romanticists' ideas of nature. The charcoal study shows a young towering tree with dense foliage. In many cases, the motifs of the drawings found their way into the large-format paintings in his adopted home of Heidelberg.
