Date: c. 1800
Description: Louis Charles François de Graimberg (*1774 near Château-Thierry-1864 in Heidelberg) was a Romantic painter and draughtsman who also made a name for himself as a collector, museum founder and monument conservator. His studies of nature bear witness to an intensive engagement with the Romanticists' ideas of nature. The charcoal drawing shows a large tree with dense foliage and a stone watering trough on its trunk. The motifs of the drawings often found their way into the large-format paintings of his adopted home Heidelberg.
