Description
Yves Klein (1928-1962) was a French artist known for his contributions to the development of minimalist, monochromatic painting, and his exploration of the boundaries between art and spirituality. He is perhaps best known for his signature shade of ultramarine blue, which he called International Klein Blue (IKB).Klein began his artistic career in the late 1940s as a figurative painter, but he gradually moved away from representational art towards abstraction and monochrome painting. In 1957, he created his first monochrome work in his signature shade of blue, and the following year he patented International Klein Blue.Klein was interested in the idea of the immaterial, and he believed that his monochrome paintings could act as portals to a spiritual realm beyond the physical world. He also experimented with performance art, creating works such as the "Anthropometry" series, in which he used naked women as human paintbrushes to create abstract paintings.Despite his short career, Klein's work has had a significant influence on the development of Minimalism, Conceptual art, and Performance art. He continues to be a major figure in the history of modern art.
