Description
A superior example in the style of early 16th century German armor. The close helmet of characteristic form with central ridge wrought with steps and radial flutes to either side of the skull, the separately applied visor finely fluted in classic bellows style and pierced for ventilation, pivoted to the fluted bevor with rolled border. The breastplate appears to be of the 16th century, with pointed besagews in place and fluting for much of its surface, with rolled borders at the neck and arms and flanged at the waist, the backplate likewise rolled at neck and shoulders. With complete arm defenses, the pauldrons and couters finely fluted en suite. The fine mitten gauntlets articulated and fluted, with round cuffs, the thumbs intact. The fauld of three plates with applied tassets, all finely fluted. The tassets, cuisses and poleyns well-fluted together with the tips of characteristic rounded sollerets, the greaves with slots for spurs. The mail fauld intact. Early 19th century. Retains a fine, bright polish overall. Some straps replaced. Overall height 174cm. Condition II STAND NOT INCLUDED
