Description
A superior example in the style of German armor in the latter 15th century. The sallet helmet of characteristic form with central ridge, the separately applied pivoting visor finely fluted and pierced for ventilation, with rolled borders. Breastplate with central ridge and fluted for much of its surface, with rolled borders at the neck and arms and flanged at the waist, the backplate likewise rolled at neck ands. With complete arm defenses, the pauldrons and couters finely fluted en suite, the vambraces rolled at the cuff. The gauntlets articulated and fluted, with pointed cuffs, fingers and thumbs intact. Each tasset, cuisses, poleyns and hinged greaves well-fluted together with the tips of the pointed solerets, which retain their rare spurs. Mail coat intact. Holding a quality broadsword with flanged pommel and wire-wrapped grip. Mid-19th century. Retains a fine, bright polish overall. Some straps repaired. Overall height 180cm.
