A nice Lapis Lazuli hinged Pill, or small Trinket box by the Chilean jewelry designer Morita Gil. This uncommon sized box for Gi'ls work is a nice vintage example of this highly collected artist. Made from indiginous South American Lapis, size: 1 5/8 in. long x 1 1/8 in wide. x 13/16 in. high, signed "Morita Gil, Chile" on inner metal mount. Hinge is tight, closes tightly, very good condition. Morita Gil is a Modernist Jewelry designer recognized for the quality and craftsmanship of her hand made jewelry and “objects of virtue” pieces, like the box offered here. She is regarded as producing the best quality pieces in the Chilean artisan jewelry market. She uses mostly stones native to her home country of Chile for her pieces. Her works have been presented as gifts to heads of state and dignitaries by the Chilean Government. A lapis box made by herand once and owned by the David Rockefeller family, has passed through auction.
