North America, United States, New York, New York City, ca. late 19th century CE. This is an interesting antique copper jug or pitcher used to measure brewing temperatures of ale or beer up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit, made by Budde & Westermann of New York, a distributor of bar and restaurant supplies. The elongated cylinder rests on a sturdy foot, and one side has a large handle as well as a glass windowpane that contains a thermometer with numbered measurement marks. The base is stamped with the oval manufacture mark of "BUDDE & WESTERMANN / 50 VESEY ST / NEW YORK." Size: 2.8" Diameter x 8.5" H (7.1 cm x 21.6 cm)

Condition
Abrasions and indentations to copper as expected with use and age. Glass pane and glass thermometer are intact. Staining and cloudy areas of glass and temperature markings are faint. Base is clearly marked by maker. Thermometer does not function, and we do not recommend drinking from or using this piece.
