Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A trio of cast leaded-bronze appliques comprised of flat, circular versos with relief and etched visages on the obverse. The largest is a clean shaven and rounded face - of a goddess or child - with a thick coiffure pulled back at the ears. The next is a rondel of the gorgon Medusa, her snake hair cascading to her shoulders. The third is a petite and more stylized face that may represent a theater mask. Size of largest: 1.25" Diameter (3.2 cm)
Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000

Condition
Softening of finer details and faces on largest face and Medusa are somewhat indiscernible. Chips to rim of Medusa and smallest applique. Patina and toning on each and mineral encrustations in recessed areas.
