Description
Probably late 19th C., with 36 drawers arranged three across and twelve down, the drawers having white porcelain knobs and made without backs, the drawer sides sloping down towards the back. Eastlake style carving to sides, the drawer fronts with decorative carving of lines and circles. The cabinet belonged to the late Thomas McNemar, (see provenance, below,) who kept some of his vast collection of African combs, gold weights, small ivories, heddle pulleys, and other objects in its drawers. Approx. 53" H x 44" W x 14" D.Provenance: Estate of Thomas McNemar, (1931-2020.) McNemar lived and collected throughout Central and West Africa in the 1960s and 70s. He established galleries of African Art in New York and San Francisco, selling to museums and public and private collections in the United States and Europe.
