Description
Ca. 1100-1125. Appears to have three to four red collector seals on the top right, top left and top middle-the largest seal can be seen within the middle of the calligraphy portion. This is a 3 3/8" square emperor's seal. Overall, only fair condition, with crease-line paint losses, and painted repairs to the very bottom right, plus overall age appropriate dark toning. The most significant condition issue is the crack along the crease line on the very top of the painting, well above the image. This crack goes through the painting and backing, and WILL easily be separated with further handling. In addition, the silk backing has loss and shows a taped repair as seen from the front. Will definitely require restoration and a new mounting. Enlarge pictures to get an accurate idea of condition. The entire scroll's size is stated below, the actual painting size is approx. 30" by 17". Bought from Martine Gade in 1980, as stated in the estate probate list of items. This may be the oldest of the Nooter scrolls offered within this auction sale. The antique wood outer box (and inner box) will be included.
