Ancient Central Asia, Bactria, ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A nice set of 3 hand-carved alabaster jars of light honey-yellow hues, the 2 largest with integral banding inside the stone matrices. The first jar exhibits an inverted, bell-shaped body with a flat base and a slender groove just beneath the rim. The 2 larger jars have cylindrical bodies with gently tapered walls, thick, flared rims, and flat bases. The darker banding within the lighter stone creates a wondrous presentation when each is placed next to a light source. Size of largest: 3.6" W x 2.3" H (9.1 cm x 5.8 cm)
Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, 1995 to 2010; ex-Hirsch collection, Germany, collected 1950 to 1970

Smallest vessel has restoration to area of rim and body. Medium-sized vessel repaired from large pieces. Largest vessel has repair and/or restoration to area of rim. All have nice surface smoothness. Old inventory label beneath base of each vessel.
