**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Iron Age, ca. 11th to 6th century BCE. A fascinating terracotta plaque featuring the relief of a bull shown in stride facing right. The strong animal presents a slender flank with bent legs and a petite head crowned by a pair of curved horns. A triangular object, perhaps intended as a drinking or feeding vessel, is featured beneath the animal's snout. Bulls were an important symbol in the ancient world and often represented bravery and fortitude. Size: 4.8" W x 2.8" H (12.2 cm x 7.1 cm); 4.8" H (12.2 cm) on included custom stand.
This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report will accompany the item upon purchase.
Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000
