Description
Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A hand-carved sandstone plaque of rectangular form featuring a right-facing feline of sizable form. The large leopard strides forward with slender legs, its body adorned in dozens of shallow pecks imitating fur, and a tail aloft on the verso. The raised head features a single eye above open jaws, a perky ear, and additional pecks of fur. Size: 4.875" W x 3.125" H (12.4 cm x 7.9 cm); 3.6" H (9.1 cm) on included custom stand.
