Group of Four American and English Majolica Spittoons/Cuspidors
Comprising a George Morley's deep purple ground 'Bramble' example, circa 1884-1891, of octagonal thistle form, the lower body molded with a spray of black berry briar, black printed uppercase mark, GEORGE MORLEY'S MAJOLICA EAST LIVERPOOL, O(hio), height 5 1/2 inches, diameter 7 inches; a Wardle & Co. brown-ground 'Fern and Bamboo' example, circa 1875, indistinct impressed registry diamond (17-S-E-9) possibly or 17 May 1893, of thistle form, the lower body molded with a large green fern, reserved against bound vertical bamboo stalks, signed with black painted 549, height 6 3/4 inches, diameter 8 inches; a Griffen, Smith & Hill, Etruscan 'Sunflower' example, recorded as shape no. F8, circa 1884, of thistle form, the flaring neck and sides molded with panels of large sunflowers on green stems, reserved on a stippled ground, impressed GSH monogram and Etruscan Majolica circle medallion mark, black printed 84, height 6 inches, diameter 6 1/2 inches; and a Samuel Lear mauve-ground 'Bouquet' example, circa 1890, of cinched bulbous funnel form, centering a molded bouquet of roses and other flowers on an impressed floral ground, unmarked, height 6 inches, diameter 7 inches.
