George Jones & Sons Majolica Turquoise-Ground Recumbent Cow Cheese Keeper and Stand
Circa 1878
Cylindrical with recumbent cow knop, the sides molded with calla lilies on a horizontal striated textured ground, the stand with a large cabbage leaf and mottled green and brown rim, the underside similarly mottled, impressed monogram and crescent mark, black painted shape no. 5229. Height 12 inches, diameter 12 1/2 inches.

overall good condition; clever professional restoration to the bull's horns and possibly to his back, the entire animal sprayed, making it difficult to discern what has been done; similarly, the stand rim and underside have been evenly sprayed, likely to disguise multiple rim chips and a crescent shaped repair, approx. 3 inches; examined under blacklight
