Description
Square-sectioned Hu form porcelain vase with key handles, the rich red glaze thinning to buff at the corners, rim, and edges of handles, with streaks of robin's egg blue especially at the top rim. Glaze trimmed at unglazed foot rim. An old handwritten note inside the vase states: "This was in the collection sold by the late Henry Pu-Yi--last prince of the Manchu Dynasty. A Japanese buyer for a Kyoto firm bought it in Peking." While we cannot verify this tantalizing provenance, we do know that the vase was acquired in the early to mid 20th C. by a woman living in Japan and has been kept in an attic for the last fifty years. Minor old dark chip to foot ring, (not visible when vase is standing.) No other chips, cracks, hairlines, or other issues. Approx. 13" H.
