A pair of late 19th century Austrian metalwares silver standing dishes, mark of Vincenz Mayer's Söhne, Vienna, Dianakopf 3rd standard mark for 800/1000 standard silver, Imperial Eagle strike, each bowl with gadrooned inner around a vacant centre, raised border with egg and dart rim, the centre decorated with wreaths and swags, short knopped column and plan pedestal foot, 21.5cm diameter, 12cm high, 39.4ozt gross Provenance: From the estate of the late Barry Lock (1934-2021) Founded in Vienna in 1810, Vincenz Mayer's Söhne were one of the most important Austrian jewellers and silversmiths of the 19th and 20th centuries. They were appointed Imperial and Royal Court jewellers and later chamber jewellers to the Emperor and Empress. They closed in 1922, mainly due to the economic crisis following the First World War.
